If you don’t have health insurance, please take advantage of these opportunities through U-M to get insurance. And because of the COVID-19 pandemic, health insurance is more important than ever.

Michigan Medicaid application assistance:

Students and others can get assistance to check on their eligibility for Michigan Medicaid and apply if eligible. Michigan Medicaid is a public assistance health insurance program for low-income individuals. 

Health Insurance Marketplace assistance

If you’re not eligible for Michigan Medicaid, you may want to consider purchasing health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

From now to August 15, 2021, you can take advantage of a special enrollment opportunity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During this time, the Patient Financial Counselors at Michigan Medicine can provide free help to determine whether you are eligible for financial assistance to pay for insurance on the Health Insurance Marketplace at

U-M Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan

Current U-M students who are not eligible for Michigan Medicaid or for financial assistance on the Health Insurance Marketplace may wish to purchase the U-M Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan (DSHIP). 

This plan was developed to meet student needs. Please note that it, and other student health insurance plans, are not listed on the Health Insurance Marketplace.

This plan is only available to current U-M students during the open enrollment periods, with exceptions for qualifying life events.
