Chronic Health Conditions in Travel

airport

If you have a chronic health condition, you will want to plan how you'll manage it during travel, and make a plan for what to do if you need help.

It's a good idea to tell trusted key individuals (e.g. travel or program coordinator, fellow traveler) so they are aware and can provide help and support as needed.

For serious allergies to food or insects, you can plan to:

  • Wear a medical alert bracelet
  • Carry a medical alert card
  • Carry an Epi-Pen
  • Inform your travel companions of your allergy
  • Make sure that you know the word for allergy in the native language of your destination
